Best Deal Out There - Quality All The Way

excellent bundle, especially for the price. Everything was brand new and in original packagaging and has worked great so far. This camera is awesome! Taking amazing pictures so far. Comes with two fantastic VR lenses. Very pleased with the quality so far. Am happy with the products and the vendor Cameta Camera.

Excellent deal!

Great package at a great price. This kit came with basically everything I needed to get started with DSLR photography. Plus, it's really fun to open the shipping box - there are bunches of smaller boxes inside to open, it's like Christmas!

The camera itself has millions of reviews online, so I won't go into it here.

The 16GB SDHC card and USB cardreader are a nice touch - according to the D60, it can hold 1200 RAW images or over 2000 highest quality JPEGs. The data transfer speed seems to be decent - I haven't really noticed any sluggishness with saving pictures, even during "burst" shooting.

The Nikon-branded camera bag is nicely made, although it's a bit big to carry around on a regular basis. It holds the camera, both lenses, charger, extra battery and cables easily, and still has room for me to store an external flash unit and a filter pouch.

The extra $50 for this kit with the 55-200 VR lens rather than the non-VR is worth it - when zoomed to the 200mm range you can definitely notice the VR doing its work - it makes all the difference in low-light shooting with slower shutter speeds.

The extra battery is not Nikon brand, but works well. It's actually rated at 1100mAh which is more than the Nikon battery's 1000mAh, meaning it will theoretically last a tiny bit longer.

On a side note, this kit doesn't include any filters, which are essential to protecting your lenses during use, so you'll probably want to spend a few more bucks and buy some filters. I bought a 3-pack UV, polarizer, and fluorescent, but with the two lenses included in this kit, you might want to just buy 2 UV filters so you don't have to keep switching filters when you switch lenses.

Also, I haven't tried the included image recovery software, so I can't review it here. The cleaning cloth works fine and has a nice Cameta Camera logo on it - nothing too exciting. The 55-200 lens comes with its own cloth pouch so you can carry it around separately if you want.

Nothing bad to say about this kit, especially at this low price!

Nikon D60

Received camera, set it up and began taking great pictures. Small, and easy to operate. Owner's manual is well put together. Another great camera from Nikon. Communication from point of purchase to delivery with Cameta Camera was super.

Camera but not the fillers

by A. Balani 2009-06-29, 7 people found this review helpful
I went for this product [Nikon D60 Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm AF-S VR Zoom Lens + Nikon 55-200mm AF-S VR Zoom Lens + 16GB SD Card + EN-EL9 Battery + Case] after a few weeks of on-line research and after having read several camera reviews.
I am returning to Nikon-brand after about 10 years of using other brands and honestly I feel a bit disappointed at the general feel of the quality of the Nikon equipments nowadays. The camera itself is OK-ish but everything seems to be made of cheap "recycled-toy" plastic and gives impression of being a "disposable" product. The camera itself is technically fine though, with its Nikon 18-55 lens, it is quick, responsive and easy to use. However, the other lens (55-200) does not give the impression of high quality very much. Having said that, if I were given the opportunity to re-do mu purchase I would only buy the "camera and 18-55 lens only" and not pay for the other (mainly unwanted)stuff included in the package. Beside the camera, everything else included in the package can be bought later if/when needed. Generally, When you buy a package you pay for accessories you might not use at all and the things you get in the package are probably of the lowest quality and cheapest on the market). Furthermore, in the package I bought, the camera case is too big for the camera and all its accessories. When you put the camera in the case, you have to put something soft on the top of the camera (such as an old T-Shirt) to keep it on the place. The bag feels very bulky when you travel. The battery might be unnecessary for someone (like me) who is not a heavy camera user. The SD-card and card reader: I could have ordered 2x8 or 4x4GB SD cards which made the total price much lower than one 16 GB. And finally, you can live without the other stuff included in the box such as a peace of fabric, (presumably to clean the lens with; I won't) a CD, a SD card wallet ( don't need), and a card-reader(my laptop reads all sorts of card. I think: you won't need or may not use many of these accessories so do not pay for them. They are just box-filler and eventually hurts your wallet.

Fantastic camera

This is a fantastic deal. The camera arrived ahead of when it was supposed to, and I am very pleased with the quality of the photos I am now taking. I was also impressed with the quality and amount of accessories that came with the camera. If you are looking to get a digital slr camera this is the way to go.

Great Kit

by C. Conely 2009-01-06, 4 people found this review helpful
This is my first SLR camera, so please understand this is not meant to be an in-depth review.

I got this for our family shortly after my wife and I returned home w/ our adopted 18 month-old son, who seems to always move a bit too fast for our point-and-shoot camera to catch the best moments.

This pictures are great! So far, I've only been using in Auto modes (as I said, I'm new DSLRs and this level of adjustability) and have been taking exclusively in-door pics with the 18-55mm lens and I can't wait to explore this thing's capabilities as I become more comfortable with it. The images have been great up-close, far away, with good natural daylight or all artificial light. The limiting factor thus far has certainly been my lack of experience.

Extra battery is not Nikon branded battery, but so far it seems to take plenty of pictures w/ flash before it needs to be replaced.

Camera case is quite large, as it's meant to hold camera and a couple of lenses.

Love the 16GB card....over 2k pictures at full resolution!

Amazing performance , Great Value, Awesome photographs

VALUE FOR MONEY

After an extensive research of 3 months, like every starter, I narrowed down my buying options to Nikon D60/D40 or Canon XSI(450D) or Nikon D90.
Canon Xsi and D90 definitely have some more features than D60 like AEB,9 focus points, movie mode,in-camera autofocus motor etc.., but with a highly, unjustifiable price tag.

Also, I was really turned off by reading the negative reviews about the Canon XSI autofocus,in almost every discussion forum.Autofocus is the heart of DSLR System. No matter what,it should be the best. All other features are not always indispensable.Nikon is known for its quality optics and D60 ( D90 too ),has an awesome autofocus which is pretty fast.

I feel XSi,and to some extent D90 have feature trade-off with price.Xsi comes with 20% more price than what this Nikon D60 kit costs , and that too with the basic 18-55mm IS lens.BUT with this D60 kit($700 in Feb-09),we get a 55-200mm VR (awesome lens) + camera bag(very useful accessory) + 16 Gb Memory card + card reader + extra battery. Add $300-$350 more to already high price,if u want these accessories with XSI or D90 . BUT BUT BUT , at that budget + a little more :) i would rather consider buying a PRO level camera, than a starter like the XSi or an intermdiate like the D90.
And with regards to features,as I said that apart from a good fast autofocus all other features are not indispensable. This is how.

1) AEB --> Consider this equation.
AEB in XSI or D90 == D60/D40 + Photoshop/Lightroom
Morover u can do in camera editing(image overlay) in D60 to produce those HDR,for which AEB is being craved for.

2) 9 Focus points - Focus points are nothing but the number of points in the scene which can be focused. You can easily focus a part of the image frame, using any focus point with a 3-point or even 1point focus.More focus points find application in fast moving subjects, but only if your camera auto focus is not sluggish :). If u want that go with a 51 AF point PRO level DSLR.

3) In Camera auto focus motor: This i would consider an important feature,if you are a pro and have some old non AF lenses. But for a starter ,it doesnt matter at all
4) Movie mode: Come on , sub standard jelly like movie from a DSLR , Go for a much much better handycam for 1/3rd the price .

Conclusion:: MY Take is get a GOOD VALUE camera which is as good as PRO in normal conditions just like NIkon D60.Believe me,you will be able to grow as a pro and learn as much as u can with an intermediate level camera. So all the money I save here ( good [...]), I can use later to buy a prolevel Camera body (remem :these lenses will work :) ) , like D300,D200 or ever D700. By then I suppoz the price of contemporary pro level bodies will also come down. This is what is called value addition.

PERFORMANCE AND FEATURES
Personally I would tag Nikon D60 in a starter category-feature wise but Above intermediate-performance wise(focus and quality of pictures).

I waited for good 3-4 months after buying this camera, so that I am atleast able to provide a useful review.During this time I used D60 exhaustively, innovatively and experimentally and I must say that I am very very pleased with the results. [...]

1) Dead shot autofocus which is very fast.
2) Awesome metering performance with spot metering.More than satisfactory performance for matrix metering in high contrast scenes.
3) Good Technology EXPEED Processor , renders nice colors and nearly accurate exposure ( if u know how to do it ) on 10MP sensor.
4) Sharp ISO performance upto ISO 800. If you are a close observer , you could find some noise in ISO 1600.
5) Nice Design , i just love handling the dial,in manual mode. Would have been slightly better , if there was dedicated buttons for WB , ISO.But here also , make ISO one button touch with Fn key and keep the WB settin on menu. This is how i do it.
6) White Balance works fine with single light sources. But it does not always render accurate colors with multiple light sources, that is not a camera limitation , that is indeed a technological limitation.
7) In camera editing -: Nothing much , but sometimes you would find it as a nice timepass while experimenting with your shots.

All in all i would say that this is complete value for money. You would not repent your spending, and every penny would add to the value addition of photographic endeavours.

Personally I would recommend to buy UV filters ( multi coated ) for lens protection, A CPL filter and a Lens pen .

Hope all the information i provided , based on my experience is helpful to you all.

SLR Power

I have had my hands on a Canon EOS and a Nikon D100 and by far the D100 was more intuitive. The D60 is there...just reasonable on price too. The D60, D40 and, I think, the D80 have all had the AutoFocus motor removed from the body, so lenses are a little more expensive because motor was placed in them. NOT ALL AUTOFOCUS LENSES ARE COMPATIBLE. It must be made specifically for the D60 (buyer beware), but if you get this kit, who needs additional lenses?
The extra battery that comes with the kit will void the warranty (if you read the fine print).
great pictures...incredible resolution...perfect if you want to do a little bit more than point and shoot...but capable of that just the same.

GREAT bundle

by Isaiah B. Damron 2009-01-15, 6 people found this review helpful
I really like the D60, but you can read reviews of it elsewhere (like the amazon page on the D60).

This bundle is really awesome though. Stabilization in both lenses, a card reader that actually works (even with ubuntu!), an extra battery, an SDHC card, a nikon-brand case. It's almost all stuff you'll get anyway, and it's way, way cheaper in this bundle. Everything in it is high quality, the lenses, battery, and case are nikon-brand. The telephoto is a little shorter than I'd like (The 70-300 woulda been so much better.), but it's definitely a good starter.

Do yourself a favor, and spring an extra $110 to grab the Nikon f/1.8 prime lens. It helps to have a super fast lens, especially if you're just getting into SLRs. Note that this lens doesn't autofocus on the D60, but if you turn on the range finder in the D60 menu options, you can use the exposure bar as a focus bar, telling you when you have the lens in focus. So you basically become the D60's motor for moving around the focus ring. =P

Excellent for starting out!

Although I do not have a lot of experience in the DSLR field, after doing a lot of research I could not have chosen a better camera. The D60 is a great combination of beginner style features of a DSLR with some of the professional style features and professional looking results. The main reason I sought out a camera of this quality was that I was getting tired of the point and shoot cameras not doing what I wanted them to do. I have a Lumix point and shoot, which is a great camera, but I wanted to be able to stop things in motion. You know take a picture without the "blurry" aftermath. Now I'm sure there are great point and shoots that can do this for me, but the more I looked around DSLR was the way to go if you wanted truly great quality.

The best feature I like so far of the D60 is that for beginners who are learning to use light in conjunction with the shutter speed and learning to find the right balance, the camera has easy to use settings that allow you some freedom to adjust a particular setting like the f-stop and it will then adjust the shutter speed accordingly for you. That is great if you are like me and have no idea what they are doing. And of course, there is the full auto and full manual modes.

This particular package is also a great buy. The fact that it comes with two great starter lenses and everything else you might think of to start taking great pictures. For the price, it's fantastic. The case is a decent size, not too small but fits everything you need.
