I have a D40 with this lens and the 35mm f1.8 and the combination seems to cover almost everything I need. This lens is too slow to work very well indoors but I’ve used it when I want the versatility, but for indoor shots, the Nikon 35mm f/1.8G AF-S DX Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras is a bargain. Also keep in mind that the lens will shadow the built in flash when zoomed way in.
