humm… Nikon really is an awesome brand!… I recently purchased a Nikon D40 and i love it. It has everything I need. I was moving up from a pint and shoot… I looked at a bunch of reviews and finally decided on it.. I got it for $410 of amazon. The color and sharpness of my pictures is amazing. I can zoom and focus on tiny bugs on flowers!.. i love it. My pictures look professional! it’s a great camera for people comming in to the DSLR world!… lol and it’s not for “beginners”… they are all pretty much the same, just more features and zoom on the others… and if you have photoshop or some kind of editing software, you dont needs the editing features that are so sought after!
-hope this helps

D40/60 or 5000
But you got to think about the fact that the D40/60 has excellent image quality and gives you al normal SLR function that you would get on a D3 even(long exposer aperture control and interchangeable lenses. The D40/60 are bot cheaper than the D5000 and you can get a D40 for a round 400 like the answerer above got hers. You can always trade up to get something better in the future. The D40 is great I have one and a spare lens. Most Nikon lenses work with most nikon cameras so if you upgrade you can just sell the D40 body keep your lenses as you climb up the overpriced camera ladder.

then i think the nikon d60 is for you.
yes the new d5000 is out and is great and has new features but it is a bit pricey.
the nikon d60 is for amature and advanced photographers
with 3 frames per second
10.2 mega pixels
it is overall a good camera

D40 or D60. I have both. I like the D60 a little better.
