    Yes - it’s not the brand of the memory card that matters, but the type - for example if your camera needs SD cards, then any brand of SD card will work.

    I assume that you meant Secure Digital (SD)? (As Sandisk is a manufacturer of various different kinds of memory cards.)
    Anyways… yes. The D40, as well as the D50, D60, D5000, D80, and D90, do use SD memory cards. Other Nikon dSLRs use Compact Flash.

    SLR cameras use film. DSLR cameras take memory cards. There may be other ways of storing your photos digitaly, but I think the camera needs to be attached to a laptop or something. Try google.
