Sure, camera companies don't want you to spend money on their new cameras.

Nope.
The only film SLR camera that can be converted to digital and back is the Leica R9. I'm not sure but I think Olympus also has a model.
You would gain more if you kept your film Nikon SLR and buy another camera, a Nikon digital SLR. You can use the same lens between them.

It is not possible to convert the body from film to digital, but if you have begun assembling accessories such as longer telephoto zoom lens, dedicated flash units, etc, then it is possible to use most of these with Nikon digital bodies and the Fuji SLR body. There will be some limitations with older accessories and some digital backs. The Nikon support web-site or groups like Nikonians would be able to provide more information on specific combinations of equipment.

No, and you dont want to!
Your SLR is optical, which means you can enlarge the pics with minimal loss of sharpness. Try zooming on any digital pic on your pc and you'll see that the quality of digital pics is CRAP

As everyone else has said, the answer is no. A Nikon digital back would under cut the sales of their full digital cameras. BUT, Leica makes a digital back for their "R" series film cameras. So your notion of a digital back is sound and shared by one of the greatest companies in the photo industry. Good luck friend.

No...it's already been answered. But I take issue with Islay. The quality of images from today's better digital cameras is on a par...if not higher than film! It's absolutely amazing to me how much the images can be blown up with minimal loss of quality! (And this is coming from a long-time film user who rejected digital for years and years!)
The way to get the absolute highest quality digital enlargements is to use a program that enlarges the photo in small steps not all at one time. If you make the enlargements in Photoshop, enlarge it 5% each time until you get to your desired size. Programs are available that will do this automatically.

No not with your Nikon slr. There are cameras that can switch back between film and digital but most of these are medium format or view cameras. They accept removable backs that is either film or digital so you can switch between them. Not only these cameras big and bulky the cameras and digital back themselves are expensive.
